How to avoid Burnout (part 2)

So, you have disconnected yourself and got some time back with yourself to avoid burnout. You now need to make something of that time so that you are not tempted to slip back to old way or have a sneaky check of your notifications!

how to avoid burnout

Move, Move, Move!

If you are anything like me the last thing you want to do after work is hit the gym, however, it is proven that exercise can have a profound effect on your mood and your physical health. Something as simple as a walk can help you build stamina and improve heart health but maybe a yoga class is more your thing and this can improve your stress levels, sleep quality and have a positive overall effect on mental wellbeing.

Find something that suits you, add in a playlist, or a stop on the way to get your favourite coffee. Make it so that you look forward to it and not dread doing it. We’re not saying you need to become super fit – just get up, out and move your body!

Cook up a Storm!

I know after a hard day the last thing I feel like doing is cooking a healthy meal and with apps like uber eats etc its so easy to order in, but cooking is a great way to help you switch off. Cooking will require you to engage on both a mental and physical level. I’m a planner when it comes to meals. Finding recipes, pulling a list of ingredients together, following the steps of a recipe all requires focus and therefore stops you tuning over the trials and tribulations of the day. By cooking yourself you will be aware of exactly what you are eating and focus on consuming something nutritious and energy boosting. Its also worth keeping an eye on the amount of alcohol, sugar or processed food you are consuming as these can all impact your mood.

Make time For Your Friends

Close friends are worth their weight in gold, yet many of us struggle to make friends or maintain friendships due to work and family obligations. I have a group of 5 close friends but getting the 5 of us together is a nightmare, working around shift patterns and childcare, is a lot. We get round this by always booking the next date before we leave the last. We make time for each other and have a WhatsApp group to sound off in between meet ups. It’s like therapy only cheaper ha-ha.

So, it’s not rocket science, and this is probably stuff you already knew but even just taking the time out to read this blog is a step in the right direction to looking after your mental health and avoid burnout.

The sooner we understand switching off is a must not a luxury the better. Allowing yourself to reset will allow you to keep going for longer. If Slice can be of support in helping you implement any of these idea to your workforce, please get in touch.
