Redundancy project HR Support

Our client had to make changes to their business model which unfortunately meant an employee needed to be made redundant. The client understood that a fair and legal process needed to be carried out but did not have the knowledge to do so, so engaged SliceHR to carry out this one-off project for them. It also gave them some extra support as they were a small team.

About the Client

Our client is an accountancy firm that provides personalised, bespoke support to local small and medium sized business. Their solutions are tailored to help their clients grow and succeed.

Challenges and Objectives

Needing to make difficult decision in your business can be hard, especially when they involve affecting the livelihood of a team member in such a small team. But with changing circumstances in the business, it was identified that there was no longer a need for a particular team member who carried out a specific role.

The challenge was a simple but important one, the process and the decision needed to be fair and justified. The client knew there was a process to follow but their skill set lies in numbers not HR processes and they wanted to get it right.

Due to the small size of the team, they did not have need for internal HR nor an ongoing outsourced HR agreement but this did want one off support for this project.

Solution

SliceHR were introduced through a networking meeting. Our HR Services offer both retainer and one-off project options – the ad hoc nature of this was ideal for the client.

Using a dedicated HR consultant to the client, we were able to act on their behalf and manage the whole redundancy process. We communicated with the employee, completed all relevant paperwork and chaired the consultation meetings. The client was present at the meetings but had the full support of the HR consulted to make sure all legal processes were adhered to and that the employee was treated fairly.

Results

The employee was made redundant following due process. Despite it being an emotional process for both parties due to the closeness of the team, the situation was able to be handled with professionalism and clarity.
